The Urgency of Mothers in Children’s Success

By: Dr. Abdul Wadud Nafis, LC., MEI

Mothers play a very fundamental role in determining the direction of a child’s success, whether in academic, moral, emotional, or spiritual aspects. This role is strategic in nature, as it begins during pregnancy and continues until the child reaches adulthood.

  1. Mother as the First and Primary Educator

A mother is the madrasah al-ūlā (the first school) for her child. Fundamental values such as honesty, discipline, empathy, and responsibility are first instilled through daily interactions with the mother. Her parenting style and personal example greatly influence how a child thinks, behaves, and makes decisions in the future.

  1. Shaper of Character and Personality

Strong character is the main foundation of long-term success. A mother’s emotional touch—love, care, and warm communication—builds a child’s emotional stability. Children who grow up with strong emotional support tend to develop self-confidence, perseverance, and high resilience.

  1. Supporter of Emotional and Social Intelligence

Success is not determined solely by intellectual intelligence, but also by emotional intelligence. Mothers play a major role in teaching emotional regulation, empathy, and social skills. Children who are able to manage their emotions well are better prepared to face academic challenges and social life.

  1. Instiller of Moral and Spiritual Values

From religious and cultural perspectives, mothers are central figures in instilling moral and spiritual values. Religious practices, ethics, and proper conduct in daily life are often more effectively taught through a mother’s example. These values become the moral compass that guides children toward meaningful success.

  1. Motivator and Source of Psychological Support

Mothers are a primary source of motivation for children. A mother’s support, prayers, and encouragement have been proven to enhance children’s learning enthusiasm and resilience in facing failure. Many successful figures emerge from family environments where mothers consistently provide strong support.

  1. Long-Term Influence on a Child’s Future

A mother’s role does not end in childhood. The values, habits, and mindset instilled by a mother from an early age remain deeply rooted and continue to influence a child’s life choices, including education, career, and social relationships.

Conclusion

The urgency of a mother’s role in a child’s success is irreplaceable. A mother is not merely a caregiver, but also an educator, a character builder, and the main pillar of a child’s success. The greatest investment in building a successful and well-characterized generation lies in empowering and strengthening the role of mothers within the family and society.
